Andrew Sallans visit (Head of Strategic Data Initiatives and the Scientific Data Consulting Group at the University of Virginia Library)

Friday, April 19 @ 10 AM – lecture for campus community/library stakeholders in Hodges 605. To discuss a program of data curation.

Andrew has been working with data since starting 8 years ago in the geographic information systems and archaeology area. Since that time, he has moved onto scientific data problems with researchers in environmental sciences, biology, engineering, and numerous other areas. Until its closing in May 2010, Andrew served as the Head of the Research Computing Lab, managing data services for all U.Va. science and engineering students, faculty, and staff. He now serves as the Head of Strategic Data Initiatives and the Scientific Data Consulting Group. He has a BA in History, Archaeology, and Art History, a MS in Library and Information Studies, and a MS in the Management of Information Technology. 

Areas of focus: integration of technology in the data lifecycle, data management budgeting, data policy, and data ownership issues.
